Thank you for this. I'm currently finding myself overwhelmed by activity after many years of chronic illness and my body is reinforcing that it's okay to slow down again. I've seen all of the films you mentioned except The Fiancés (which has been on my Criterion watchlist forever), so maybe today I'll give myself a little tenderness and finally screen it. :)
Oh gosh, I know exactly what you mean. It can be so difficult to let ourselves slow down — and I’m not sure why that is. Passion is such powerful fuel, but it doesn’t always know when to pause until the alarm bells are ringing and the tank’s run dry. I definitely pushed myself into burnout territory, and even now, it’s a bit of a dance not to go full force the moment I feel even slightly recharged.
I really hope you enjoy The Fiancés (and am looking forward to your thoughts). Olmi is such a fascinating filmmaker, and one I’m eager to explore more fully myself.
What an excellent idea, thanks for sharing! A great resource I use, too, for images like that is: https://www.cosmos.so/discover -- thought I would pass it along!
Welcome back!

In any case, it’s good to be back :)
Hey, I’ve started an account where I collect some out of context captions of great films in cinema history. Just wanted to share it with the cinephiles around here : https://substack.com/@pariscinema?r=1x6h4r&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=profile
